As the final stages of three years of international talks on a Global Plastics Treaty begin in Geneva, APRS has signed an open letter to the Scottish Government calling on them to do more to protect people and nature from plastic pollution. We are very disappointed in a lack of progress in dealing with waste and litter since the government passed the Circular Economy Act last year and demand that more action be taken and this is a global moment where Scottish Government can step up their action and ambition.

Letter to FM on Global Plastics Treaty
APRS has signed this letter to Scotland’s First Minister on the Global Plastics Treaty urging the Scottish Government to do all they can to end plastic pollution. We are very disappointed in a lack of progress in dealing with waste and litter since the government passed the Circular Economy Act last year and demand that more action be taken.
We also recently signed an open letter to the Scottish Government on single-use dental flossers, concerned about yet another form of disposable item that is turning up on beaches and in rivers. We were quoted in The Herald and the full quote is below.

“Producers are constantly inventing new types of throw-away item while persuading us that we can’t live without them. The one-use flosser is an absolute prime example.
“Until producers can turn their skills in innovation and technical know-how to the service of sustainability, rather than thinking of the next throw-away gimmick, we are always going to be battling waste, litter and the pollution of our seas item by item. This ban is a start but we need laws that encourage and incentivise producers to make responsible products.”
