This webinar looks at the tools communities can use to oppose hyperscale data centres planned in their area. The focus is on explaining planning policy, and how to have your say in the Planning system. We heard from Nikki Sinclair and Kat Jones from APRS and Ben Christman of ERCS

Ben Christman
Ben is a solicitor at Environmental Rights Centre Scotland (ERCS) and worked at a law centre specialising in housing and human rights law for several years. He wrote the 2018 report for Scottish Environment LINK on the feasibility of setting up the ERCS. He has published several articles on environmental law, including a number on access to environmental justice in Scotland. He is a trustee of Planning Democracy.
Nikki Sinclair
Nikki has degrees in Ecological Science and Plant Taxonomy and Biodiversity from Edinburgh University. She worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and Edinburgh before joining the National Trust for Scotland, firstly as a property management planner and then as part of the policy team. Nikki works one day a week with APRS managing the APRS Green Belts Alliance Project and does other environmental policy work on a consultancy basis. In March 2022 she took over the role of managing the joint APRS/SCNP Scottish National Parks Strategy Project.
Kat Jones
Kat is Director of APRS and her role is advocating for, and supporting communities to advocate for, Scotland’s countryside and landscapes. She has spent two decades in Scottish conservation with SNH, now NatureScot, and then RSPB Scotland. She joined APRS from Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, Scotland’s civil society climate coalition.
