Below is a summary review of the local development plan (LDP) stages (based on online published information) of the other 17 LA’s that have designated Green Belt (Glasgow, Fife, East Renfrewshire and Midlothian are mentioned above).
Each Council presents information differently and uses different methods for engagement. Where possible APRS have commented on Green Belt topic papers. Links to further information on all planning authorities and their LDPs are to be found on the APRS planning information pages. LDP reviews are when LAs can consider changing the boundaries of Green Belts or creating new ones if deemed appropriate.
The Scottish Government’s Chief Planner issued a letter in June 2024 on ‘Planning for Housing’ following the Mossend decision (see last update). In it was a requirement that all planning authorities should publish new LDP delivery programmes (with a housing pipeline as set out in NPF4) by 31 March 2025. This means LAs without a new-style LDP are expected to review old-style action programmes associated with adopted LDPs and update and republish them before next April.
