Police Scotland said “a great deal of public opposition is likely” to the proposed hyperscale data centre in Larbert in their official response to the planning consultation for the development. This was uploaded to the planning portal the same week as the local community held another well-attended protest.

The response from Police Scotland surprised locals who commented that the local police station is 50m from the planned data centre, and they suggested that the Police should be more concerned about the health impacts on their staff from pollution and noise. However this response signals the impact that the local opposition to proposed data centres is already having in Scotland.

The police consultation response said, “Given the nature of the proposed development a great deal of public opposition is likely and therefore adequate and robust security measures will require to be implemented to prevent any kind of incursion, if the application is approved.”
