We are seeking people who are passionate about our mission to join our board to help us be even more effective at protecting and promoting Scotland’s countryside and landscapes. We are looking especially for people with experience in fundraising or in operational management and governance of organisations.
About APRS
Action to Protect Rural Scotland (APRS) is Scotland’s countryside charity. We campaign to protect, enhance and promote Scotland’s countryside and rural landscapes for everyone’s benefit, and we support others to do the same.
You can find out more about our work at www.aprs.scot
Our Board
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that APRS achieves our core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that we have a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the Director to enable APRS to grow and thrive, and achieve our mission.
Who We’re Looking For
We are hoping to find one or two new Trustees who will bring their unique skills and experience to the Board and especially welcome enquiries from younger people and underrepresented groups.
No prior trustee experience is necessary; training and support will be provided.
So if you have a passion for the landscapes and countryside of Scotland, and want to help a tiny, but highly effective charity grow in influence and ability to support the communities who we advise, come and join the team.
We are especially looking for people with skills in the following areas –
- General Operational management of organisations.
- Finance and fundraising.
- Charity governance or legal expertise.
Why Apply
This is a great opportunity to be involved in the governance of a small dynamic charity where decisions made at the Board have a real and immediate impact. Our small number of staff means that Board is very important for supporting the Director in her role and setting direction for the charity.
We hope it will offer an opportunity to gain experience and make a really positive impact. We will ensure that training will be given for the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to setting and overseeing the strategic objectives of APRS.
- Ensure APRS complies with its governing documents, charity law, and other legal requirements.
- Provide financial oversight, ensuring resources are well-managed and sustainable.
- Represent APRS and act as an ambassador for its work.
- Attend quarterly board meetings and participate in occasional sub-committees or working groups where applicable.
Time Commitment:
There are four Board meetings a year and we hold two in-person and two online. Overall time commitment is around 4-6 hours per month which consists of preparation for and attendance at Board meetings, input to papers and decisions by email on an irregular basis, and some advice to the Director on areas within your specialism – eg in advising on a response to a Government Consultation, or other issues in your area of expertise.
Renumeration:
This is a voluntary position but you are able to claim out-of-pocket expenses such as travel to Board meetings
Please get in touch with the Director if you have any questions. If you would like to apply, please send a note of interest – a paragraph on why you’d like to join the board of APRS and a CV – by 1 February.
