This application is for a 213MW data centre at the Gyle in Edinburgh on a site with planning permission for offices and in an area designated for mixed use development with residential and leisure development planned to be built in 2026. The application for planning permission in principle was rejected by the Edinburgh City Council sub-committee responsible for planning decisions in February 2026 and the developer has appealed.
This data centre was turned down by the council and they have appealed to the Scottish Government –

They voted for Edinburgh council to call on the Scottish Government for a nationwide moratorium until there is a definition of what a ‘green data centre’ is.
